The season of government public auctions
On Saturday, October 18th, the Government of Quebec will hold its semi-annual public auction during which citizens will be able to get vehicles or any kind of equipment (tools, furniture, etc.) at a good price. This sale will take place in the grounds behind the Signal Center (4715 Pierre-Bertrand Boulevard North, Quebec), at 10am. The following week, the Montreal Auction will be held at 11100 Boulevard du Golf.
Among the special items on sale are two 1948 fire trucks, a Ford and a GMC, and a helicopter tail (!). As usual, many patrol cars (from the SQ or cities) are auctioned. Of the 510 lots sold at the Quebec auction, more than 200 vehicles are part of the inventory. The rest consists of rolling stock, spare parts and tools.
The auctions are made at the auction. It is important not to raise your arms unnecessarily, at the risk of ending up with a good that we did not want. As a general rule, buyers interested in obtaining goods can visit them and inspect them before the auction, on Fridays between 8 am and 5 pm, or on Saturdays from 8 am to 10 am. Vehicles are sold "as seen" without warranty.
According to the Acquisitions Branch of the Government of Quebec, half of the buyers come from the general public, while the other half comes from the business world, both from Quebec and Ontario.
"In the spring of 2008, 426 lots were sold and raised $ 1,155,735 in Quebec, while in Montreal, 476 lots were sold for a total of $ 1,226,250. All this money has been used for the renewal of the Quebec government fleet. As for the goods sold from the municipalities, the profits are given to them, "reads the website of the Acquisitions Branch (gestion.approvisionnement-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/portail/Surplus/Encan.asp), where we can find the lists of the lots put on sale.
